Steamfall is a dynamic adventure game set in a colorful steampunk/fantasy setting. Follow your character’s unique scenario and compete with others as you explore the forbidden areas of an ever-changing city and discover new ways to triumph. Delve into the city and interact with its civilians. Gear up and compete in various scenarios that push the city towards chaos; or reach out and preserve the peace amongst the people. Upset the balance to help you complete your long-term goals.
Steamfall offers fresh mechanics and varied gameplay built into distinct game modes, including a cooperative scenario, team play and free for all.
Depending on whether you are a bad Earth human or good Earth human, you may get excited or terrified for what is about to happen. Its ok, we aliens are not judging. Just experimenting. Mostly on how to not be bored, you humans are so much fun. We kidnapped this designer to help us create a board game simulation we can delight in. In the simulation, we left some of our wicked alien tech on Earth and Earth humans built a city around it. Amazingly, these humans even learned to misuse and merge some of our devices with their clockwork toys. Well, that’s a recipe for catastrophe. Anyway, you humans are doomed.
Each character has a unique set of ability cards.
Starting up, you take control of a human adventurer (or adventuring gorilla) with a unique set of abilities and character board. You will perform all activities via a unique action building mechanic that allows you to upgrade your actions every turn - deciding between an immediate or long-term benefit.
The unique action mechanic allows you to improve and activate an action column each turn.
Your adventurer will enter a randomly generated city consisting of big cardboard tiles and face down secret location cards. Some of these locations may contain events, change the mood of your character, contain secret information, or offer other opportunities.
Visited locations are placed under your influence. A cube is placed to mark the location, which can be exploited later.
They say it’s fun to explore these unique locations and do human things, like drinking or picking up junk from the street.
Item modifications in game.
You will merge the junk and tech to make your own devices and perform new actions, combos, or even more intense human stuff -- like interaction with other animals or humans. These individuals open even more gameplay options and offer quests that reward insight and renown.
Civilian cards provide special passive and active abilities. Complete their quests to reward insight and renown.
Eventually, an alpha human will decode our alien ciphers, making them the least favorite human to other players, because they will have won the game and also triggered the apocalypse.
Decoding the cipher tablets brings renown and victory in competitive mode.
In cooperative mode, you humans may vaguely realize your mistakes and band together to face the impending doom. You will now need to work together in order to deal with crises appearing on the map; and our terrible mechanization pylons that are turning the civilians.
The alien pylon is defended by mechanized and a civilian is about to get eaten. Also, the area is on fire.
You will attempt - and miserably fail - to destroy the pylons, battle our minions and rescue the civilians while trying to deal with crisis cards appearing on the map.
Co-op relics and a ruins token
It is amusing how you humans think you have found a way to destroy the pylons by using our own artifacts. We let you do that from time to time, because surely, it is not just another trap to keep us entertained...

Near infinite replayability, delivered through 200+ cards, the majority of which are unique.
Simple rules, but a lot of depth resulting from an original action building system.
Character mood mechanic.
Item upgrade mechanic that allows for connecting and customizing items.
Two modes: Cooperative and Competitive.
Unique theme with illustrations done by a single artist.

PROMO PACK A promotional pack of cards will be attached outside the box to every copy of the game. The pack will include at least 10 cards, but the content of the pack as well as content of the game box will increase with unlocked stretch goals.
EXCLUSIVITY INFORMATION This is a Kickstarter only project and the final product is very unlikely to appear in general distribution. A limited quantity of games will be produced to serve the backers and SPIEL 2018 fair.

We created the game with dark matter, but we want your human dollars in order to produce this in cardboard and wood. We will take your human dollars, but you can keep the dark matter and all the rest. We may even let the designer live and release the artist from down below.
